TOWN SIGN JACK PAYNE FROM LINCOLN

6 August 2020

Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder, Jack Payne from Lincoln City subject to EFL and FA approval.

Payne joins on a two-year deal having spent last season in League One with the Imps, making 30 appearances in all competitions and scoring 2 goals.

The 25-year-old started his professional career with Southend United where he played 88 times and picked up the club’s player of the year award for the 2015/16 season.

The midfielder is searching for a third career promotion after success with Southend and Huddersfield.

Although Payne did not play for the Terriers in their 2016/17 Championship play-off final, he managed 23 league appearances that season and featured in the play-off semi-final win against Sheffield Wednesday.

During his three years at Huddersfield, Payne spent loan spells out at Oxford, Blackburn Rovers and Bradford city. The midfielder was then snapped up by Lincoln in July 2019, having been released from the Championship side.

Upon signing his two-year deal with the club, Payne said:

“I’m excited to be here, to get things sorted early. Can’t wait to get started.”

“I know a couple of the lads here and I know how well they did last year. I’ve heard about the way the team play and the way the manager wants to play, and I think it suits me perfectly.”

“Swindon are an attacking team and like to go forward and make chances to score goals which is what I want to be doing. There’s a lot of good players here which helps, and I look forward to playing with them.”

The club would like to welcome Jack and we look forward to seeing him in a Town shirt for the next few seasons.
