MATCH PREVIEW: DONCASTER ROVERS (A)

15 December 2020

Swindon face Doncaster Rovers this evening in what is their penultimate Tuesday night game of the calendar year.

Following the return of fans to games, Town come into this League One fixture off the back of a 1-0 loss to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

Swindon were formed in the same year as Doncaster (1879), although it took eighty years for the two sides to play against each-other. A brace from Jimmy Fletcher on the day gave the Reds a 2-0 win.

Manager John Sheridan returns to Rovers to face the team he once served as a player, playing seven games for the club in 1998.

It will also be a return to the Keepmoat for Town defender Mathieu Baudry, who was a key player in their promotion season to League One in 2016/17.

The Opposition:

Doncaster currently sit one place out of the Play-Off places, two points behind and two games in hand on sixth place Ipswich Town.

The hosts will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce this evening, following victories at home to Gillingham and away to Northampton.

Darren Moore's side are the League's third highest scorers (tied with Hull) with 27 goals so far, so Town's defence will need to keep their wits about them to try and stop any danger that may come to fruition.

One to watch:

Town will have to pay close attention to Rovers centre midfielder Ben Whiteman, Donny’s top scorer this season with seven goals in all competitions. Whiteman has four league goals this season and three assists.

Officials:

Paul Howard will be the man in charge this evening and will be assisted by Paul Newhouse and Conor Brown. The fourth official will be David Richardson.
