MATCH REPORT: CREWE ALEXANDRA 4-2 SWINDON TOWN

1 December 2020

First-half goals from Anthony Grant and Tyler Smith put Town 2-0 up before Daniel Powell’s strike put his side back in the contest just before half-time.

After the break, Crewe scored three goals through Perry NG, Tom Lowery and Owen Dale to secure the points.

First-Half:

The first fifteen minutes of football was relatively even, with both sides trying to get a feel of what to expect from each other.

It was the hosts that tried their luck first when skipper, Perry Ng took a shot from 25-yards out but it was too high to worry Kovar in the Town net.

It was on twenty minutes that the game got it’s first goal when Dion Donohue found Tom Broadbent, who nodded down to Anthony Grant. The Town captain chested down and shot on the turn, catching out Jaaskelainen and firing into the back of the net.

Three minutes later, Tyler Smith was so close to making it 2-0. Tom Broadbent who assisted the first goal was creator again when he delivered a low cross towards the six-yard area, but the Striker, Smith was inches away from turning home and doubling Town’s lead.

With eight minutes left in the half, Smith did manage to get his goal. Jaiyesimi twisted and turned on the edge of the box and his low strike was turned in by Smith. That’s his second goal in as many starts since returning from injury.

Almost instantly, Crewe managed to get themselves on the scoreboard when Daniel Powell’s shot from a tight angle found it’s way past Kovar bringing the gap back to one goal.

Second-Half:

After a promising first forty-five minutes for Town, Crewe found themselves level within ten minutes of the restart. Perry Ng got the hosts back to 2-2 with a curling effort that ended up in the far left corner of the net.

From then on in Crewe took advantage of their second wind and really turned the screw for the remainder of the game.

Tom Lowery made it 3-2 just after the hour mark, when Powell’s shot was well saved by Kovar but it was palmed into the path of Lowery who made no mistake.

Four minutes later, Owen Dale doubled the lead for the home side when he was found at the back post by Powell.

The boys travel to Gillingham on Saturday, searching for their second League win on the road.
