MATCH PREVIEW: SUNDERLAND

16 October 2020

Swindon Town’s second consecutive match at home will see the visit of Sunderland, in what will be the first domestic meeting between the two clubs in 21 years.

Goals from Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips earned a 2-0 victory at the Stadium of Light the last time the two sides met competitively.

Currently, only two points stand between Sunderland and Swindon heading into the fixture.

Last week’s 1-0 home defeat against AFC Wimbledon was a huge blow to Town, but they can take solace of the fact the County Ground is generally a successful hunting ground for Swindon.

Town have only lost two out of their last ten home League matches, taking 22 points out of a maximum of 30.

Sunderland have experienced a rather smooth and steadier start to the season, winning two and drawing two of their opening four games.

Their away form since the start of the League One campaign has been strong, beating Oxford United 2-0 and drawing 0-0 against one of the promotion favourites, Charlton Athletic.

Town will be looking to get back to winning ways at home following their wins against Rochdale and Burton.
