MATCH PREVIEW: PORTSMOUTH (H)

20 April 2021

Swindon host seventh place Portsmouth this evening in a fixture that could see Town relegated to League Two, depending on other scores.

The Reds were on the end of a 4-1 thumping away at Wimbledon on Saturday, leaving them bottom of League One heading into the final four games of the season.

First-half goals from Joe Pigott, Will Nightingale and Ayoub Assal gave the Dons an unassailable lead at the break. Pigott scored his second just after the interval, before Tyler Smith's strike was nothing more than a cosolation goal in the last few minutes of what was a disappointing afternoon.

Tonight's opponents pose a very different obstacle and a win for Pompey could see them jump into the play-off places.

Last time we faced the Blues, back in February, Ronan Curtis' early header and Ellis Harrison's penalty gave the Hampshire side all three points.

The Opposition:

Since Danny Cowley's arrival at Fratton Park, his side have won four of the seven games he's been in charge of.

Despite a strong start to his managerial tenure at the Club, Pompey have not won in their last three with defeats against Burton and MK Dons and a draw at Crewe Alexandra a week ago today.

When Portsmouth and Town have met in a League setting, both teams' records are identical. In fifty five meetings between the two Clubs, both sides have twenty one wins to their name, with thirteen draws.

Tonight's visitors pose a particular threat in striker John Marquis, having scored fourteen League goals this season. Another danger within the Pompey ranks is winger Marcus Harness. The 25-year-old has registered seven League assists for his side this campaign.
