Town Head Coach Speaks Ahead of Saturday

27 August 2021

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner has provided a squad update ahead of Saturday's game against Mansfield Town.

The Reds host the Stags at The County Ground in the EFL Sky Bet League Two tomorrow, and Garner met with the local media on Friday to give an update on a number of players, including Louis Reed, Jayden Mitchell-Lawson, Mathieu Baudry and Jordan Lyden.

"Both trained, both no issues and Reedy was just a whack on the ankle, which was sore at the time, but it settled down within a couple of days," Garner said.

"Jayden has had a good training week so he will certainly come into contention this weekend.

"Jordan Lyden and Mathieu Baudry are still progressing well, they won't be available for the weekend but they are both doing really well with their rehab.

"They are both good characters around the place as well and we keep them close to the group, because they are such good personalities around the group.

"Both are working hard and as soon as we can get them back into the fold we will do."

Town had a free week for the first time after what has been a chaotic start to the 2021-22 EFL Sky Bet League Two season, and Garner was thankful for the time he got to spend with his team on the training ground.

"We've had a good week," Garner continued.

"We gave them a little bit of a rest at the start of the week and then we worked all the way through.

"It was a very pleasing week, really happy with the progress of the players and there was a lot of hard work on the training ground.

"As I said previously, it has given an opportunity to some who didn't have a full preseason to catch up with some physical loading, so we're really happy with the week and hopefully that goes into the game tomorrow.

"You could have a brilliant training week and not play great on the Saturday, you could have a poor training week and play brilliantly, but it is all about Saturday.

"We focus on the process, we have data that we use from the GPS in terms of the football output that we want, we stick to those processes each week and we believe that will result in good performances over the course of the season."
