Garner on Mitchell-Lawson, team selection for Salford

Gaffer speaks ahead of today's game

Town Head Coach Ben Garner gave his views on both the arrival of Jayden Mitchell-Lewis, and his team selection for the trip to Salford City on Saturday.

The Reds further bolstered their squad on Thursday when they announced the arrival of Mitchell-Lewis on a free transfer, with the attacker returning home to SN1 having started his career with the club's Academy.

Mitchell-Lawson can play anywhere across the front-line and will bring goals to this team, and Garner believes that he will add a different dimension to this Town team from an attacking perspective having worked with him previously at Bristol Rovers.

"We're really pleased to get Jayden in," Garner told the local media.

"He had a knee injury that he picked up at Derby last season and he was recovering from that, so he's come in and finished the backend of his rehab with us.

"It was just a case of making sure he was fit and ready to go before we officially signed him.

"He's worked really hard over the last three, four weeks and he gives us different options in an attacking sense.

"He's a quick player, he can go past people, he can play wide, he can play central in that front-line and he did really well for me previously at Bristol Rovers.

"He comes here with a little bit of hunger and a point to prove, so I think he'll be a really good signing for the Football Club."

Garner also provided a fitness update and an overall look at his team selection picture ahead of the long trip to Salford on Saturday.

"Salford will probably come a bit too soon for Jayden - he's just started full training with the group, but he should be involved very shortly," Garner continued.

"Salford may be a bit quick for him.

"Kaine (Kesler-Hayden) will be fine and Jordan Lyden is progressing really, really well - he's not far away and that's the same for Mathieu Baudry.

"We're pretty good on that front."
