Grant is Back!

Midfield General signs on for 2021-22

5 August 2021

Swindon Town are delighted to announce that fan favourite Anthony Grant has signed a new one-year contract extension, subject to EFL approval.

The 34-year-old has been on trial at The County Ground this preseason after being asked back by the new management team following his initial release earlier in the summer, and he will now return for the 2021-22 season after impressing Head Coach Ben Garner.

Grant was his dominant best in Saturday's preseason friendly against Peterborough United, and he will certainly add plenty of bite to the midfield for the Robins as they embark on their Sky Bet League Two campaign.

After signing on an initial four-month loan deal from Shrewsbury Town in September 2019, Grant made an immediate impact at SN1 and was quickly signed to a permanent contract in January 2020.

Forming a lethal partnership with Michael Doughty in the heart of the midfield, Grant was a key cog in the Robins team that stormed to the Sky Bet League Two Title in 2019-20, finishing the season in style by being crowned the club's Swindon Advertiser Player of the Year Award with 50% of the fans' votes.

Grant signed a new deal for the 2020-21 season and finished with three goals in 34 appearances for the club.

Grant is the third signing in two days following the arrivals of midfielder Mohammad Dabre and forward Harry McKirdy, as Town continue to bolster their ranks ahead of the start of the 2021-22 EFL Sky Bet League Two season.

Affectionately nicknamed "The General" by Town fans thanks to his no-nonsense style of play and hard-hitting tackles in midfield, Grant is truly adored by The County Ground faithful and his wealth of experience and leadership qualities will be perfect fits for the team this coming season.

With over 200 professional outings under his belt, Grant will be a key member of the 2021-22 team, and we are delighted that the midfielder is back at SN1 for a third season.
