Town bolster their ranks with McKirdy signing

Forward signs on for 2021-22

4 August 2021

Swindon Town are pleased to announce the signing of forward Harry McKirdy on an initial one-year deal, subject to EFL approval.

The 24-year-old has been on trial at The County Ground for a number of weeks and has impressed the management team throughout his period with us.

McKirdy came through the ranks at Aston Villa and made his EFL debut at 19-years-old while on loan at Stevenage.

Further loan spells followed at Crewe and Newport before he left the Midlands and headed north, joining Carlisle United in the summer of 2019.

And it was in Cumbria that McKirdy enjoyed his breakout season, finishing the campaign as United's top scorer with 11 goals and contributing an eye-catching assist in the opening weeks of the campaign in our 3-2 home win on the way to the League Two Title.

After leaving Carlisle last summer, McKirdy had a mixed year at Port Vale last term, making eight appearances under three managers as the Valiants endured a disappointing campaign.

Director of Football Ben Chorley had this to say on McKirdy's arrival:

"Harry has worked very hard over the last few weeks with us, his attitude in both training and across all three preseason games has been fantastic.

"Harry has a wealth of experience in League One and Two, and he can play many different roles within our team.

"We look forward to working with Harry and wish him all the best during this upcoming season."

His versatilty across the forward line and his eye for goal have been clear for all to see over the last few weeks, and we look forward to watching Harry realise his huge potential at SN1 in the coming season.
