Town Bring In Talented Defender

Romoney Crichlow joins from Huddersfield

6 August 2021

Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of defender Romoney Crichlow from Huddersfield Town, subject to EFL approval.

Crichlow joins us on a season-long loan from The Terriers, and will spend the duration of the 2021-22 EFL Sky Bet League Two season at The County Ground.

With the new campaign just days away, the Reds have further bolstered their ranks with the addition of the hugely-talented defender who will prove to be a big hit at SN1.

Able to play at the heart of the defense and on the left side, Crichlow is big, strong, athletic and aggressive and he adds a different dimension to what is already a strong and talented defensive unit at the club.

Born in Luton, Crichlow signed for Huddersfield as a Free Agent and he spent the 2019-20 season cutting his teeth in professional football via loan spells with Hartlepool United and Welling United.

He made his EFL Championship debut at just 21-years-old, and he made six appearances in total for The Terriers across the Championship, the Emirates FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup, scoring his first goal in professional football against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.

Having impressed and seen as a bright talent with an exciting future, Crichlow signed a contract extension with Huddersfield and will now spend the 2021-22 campaign with the Robins, where he hopes to further his development and also make a considerable impact in what is an incredibly exciting time at SN1.

"I'm very excited," Crichlow told swindontownfc.co.uk.

"The opportunity came up for me to come here and having spoken to the Gaffer, it is clear that he has a plan for me, it is a good place for me to develop and get the game time and experience I need.

"It was a no-brainer.

"It is always nice to come into a positive environment and it is a blessing to be able to come here.

"I'm looking forward to this Saturday's game and starting off well."

Crichlow will be a big addition to the team and Town's Director of Football Ben Chorley said this on our latest arrival:

"Romoney is a player I first watched on his debut against Nottingham Forest in the Championship and I have been tracking his progress since," Chorley said.

"Huddersfield are a club that I have dealt with in the past with Rarmani Edmonds-Green and I see massive similarities between the two.

"He brings balance to an already strong defensive unit that we have at the club. He is quick, aggressive and loves defending - a characteristic that I am sure all Town fans will admire.

"I would also like to thank both Huddersfield and Romoney's representative for helping get this deal over the line.

"They allowed myself and Ben (Garner) to present our plans and model to Romoney for which we are extremely grateful for."

Crichlow brings a tremendous amount of talent with him to SN1, and Swindon Town are incredibly excited to have him on board for the 2021-22 season.
