Garner on Walsall test

Gaffer speaks ahead of Cup Tie

4 December 2021

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner knows his side will have to be at their best in order to see off Walsall this afternoon.

The Reds take on the Saddlers in the Emirates FA Cup Second Round at the Bank's Stadium - 3pm Kick-Off - with both teams knowing what could await should they progress.

With over 2,000 Town fans expected to descend on Walsall this afternoon, Garner is well aware that his team will need to take care of business against their opponents and not take them lightly.

"Walsall are a good team," Garner said.

"They had a little bit of a slow start to the season but they've picked up since then and they've got some good players, they've got some experienced League Two players and they've also got several young players on loan who have done well for them.

"It is fantastic that we're going to have over 2,000 fans going to the game, so it is going to be an incredible atmosphere and it is the magic of the FA Cup.

"The aim for us is to get in to that Third Round Draw and you never know what happens from there.

"In this league anyone can beat anyone and Walsall certainly have the capability to do that.

"They've got experienced players at the level, they have a good structure to their team and they pose a really good threat on the counter-attack.

"We've got to be very, very aware of that on Saturday that they are a really good counter-attacking team, they've got good pace and mobility in the front areas of the team and our organisation and concentration levels will have to be very, very good.

"There's areas we think we can exploit and we'll be going there on the front foot, attacking the game and trying to get into that next round."
