Kesler-Hayden reflects on Cup heroics

Defender speaks on Walsall win

4 December 2021

Kaine Kesler-Hayden gave his thoughts after emerging as the hero in Swindon Town's 2-1 victory over Walsall in the Second Round of the Emirates FA Cup this afternoon.

After Emmanuel Osadebe's header had cancelled out Tyreece Simpson's early strike, Kesler-Hayden popped up with the winner with just over 20 minutes to play in the second-half.

It was the defender's first-ever professional goal, and one that sent Town through to the Third Round of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

And, in the wake of his heroics, Kaine Kesler-Hayden spoke with the local media to give his views on what was another successful away day and a special day for the defender given that he was playing in his hometown.

"It was a really hard-fought battle from the team," Kesler-Hayden said.

"I thought first-half we weren't as good but second-half we went into it fighting with real energy and were able to win the game.

"I think the energy and the fight from the lads (helped to win the game). After the team talk we just came back out and were on it.

"We wanted to win, we wanted to proceed to the next round and that's what got us kicking.

"It has taken a while but now the first goal has come, I feel I can kick on.

"It is a proud moment for me to score my first goal, especially the way it came along.

"All my family were watching it and I'll look back on it for a long time to come.

"Whoever we get in the next round we will take it and try and win."
