Ben Garner took plenty of positives from Swindon Town’s final pre-season friendly at home to Peterborough United at the County Ground this afternoon.

The Head Coach was encouraged by players’ performances with less than a week remaining until the start of our SkyBet League Two campaign which begins away to Scunthorpe United.

Ben said: “There were lots of positives to take from today, it was a huge step up from last week. We’ve had a really big training week because we had to, so I was expecting players to be a bit more lethargic than they were.

“Some of our combination play was excellent. Our counter-press on transitions was very good and our defensive shape. Full credit to the players, they’ve been excellent.

“We’re paying no attention to the result at all. We made a lot of changes in the second half and it’s hard to establish fluency when you’re making as many changes as we did.

“We created some good opportunities from good positions.”

Garner was also pleased to see 2,431 Swindon fans in attendance – many of whom had been absent from the County Ground since before the pandemic.

He added: “To get today’s crowd for a friendly and the atmosphere was amazing. It’s fantastic for the supporters to have their club back and be able to watch games.

“I could feel the atmosphere on the touchline. So imagine what that will be like in two weeks’ time for Carlisle United.”
