WE’RE MAXIMISING EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY: GARNER

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner previews today's visit of Peterborough United.

31 July 2021

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner has paid tribute to his squad, club staff and supporters ahead of this afternoon’s pre-season fixture against Peterborough United.

The Posh are our final pre-season opponents and arrive at the County Ground exactly a week before our opening SkyBet League Two fixture of the season away to Scunthorpe United.

Ahead of kick-off (3pm), Garner issued a positive update from the training ground and explained all staff at the club are making the most of every minute each day presents.

He said: “Today is going to be a fantastic occasion for our fans to be back at the County Ground supporting their club.

“Personally, I am excited to have the opportunity to meet many of our supporters and I’m hopeful the chance to watch live football for the first time in many months will help attract a good crowd.

“Yes, it’s a friendly. But this is our final pre-season game, which means getting minutes into the legs of our players against a good level of opposition is very important.

“Training this week could not have gone much better. I must give all players and staff massive credit because right now everyone at the club is maximising the time we have to prepare for our first competitive game of the season.

“Peterborough this afternoon is the next step in our process. At full-time, we can look to build further before our league campaign starts.”

Garner confirmed several trialists will be involved in today’s matchday squad. But a decision on their futures at SN1 will be made after full-time.

He added: “We’ve had several trialists in all week and today is a good opportunity for us to have a good look at their game against good opposition. Decisions will be made afterwards.

“We know the start of the season is going to be a challenge, but the most important thing for me is that everyone associated with the club – that includes our supporters – is positive, on the same page and working towards a collective goal.”

Supporters can purchase tickets for this afternoon’s friendly online by clicking here. Online tickets will be available to purchase until half-time.
