SWINDON TOWN FC JOINS GROWING LIST OF FOOTBALL CLUBS GOING DIRECT-TO-CONSUMER WITH SPORTS VIDEO PLATFORM RECAST

  • Partnership with innovative sports video platform Recast will see forward-thinking League Two side Swindon Town earn through fan engagement
  •  The Robins follow in the footsteps of the likes of Manchester City, Hibernian and QPR by giving fans the chance to contribute to the club they love by watching content
  • Content including live matches, player interviews and behind-the-scenes features will be available exclusively on Recast throughout the season

Fans of Swindon Town FC can now directly fund their club by watching content as the English Football League (EFL) side joins pioneering sports video platform Recast.

The Reds become the latest rights holder to choose to stream on the Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, with the partnership creating a home for affordable, flexible access to exclusive content, which Recast’s unique microtransaction system turns into club revenue through viewership.

Fans can look forward to live matches, player interviews and behind-the-scenes features throughout the season as their side competes in the EFL's League Two.

Swindon Town FC follows the likes of Manchester City FC, QPR FC and Hibernian FC on to Recast, at a time when there is a need to revolutionise the current sports viewing model after years of fans turning to online feeds and illegal streams or watching short clips and highlights rather than a full event - all of which has been accelerated due to COVID-19.

Swindon Town FC's Head of Commercial, Danny Lee, said: “We are delighted to be joining Recast and are confident about the opportunities this partnership will provide to the club and our fans. We are looking forward to expanding our content offering for supporters as we aim to provide more innovative ways for them to follow us.

“Recast’s unique micropayment system allows our fans to contribute to our future and success, while enjoying content directly from the heart of the club, and enables us to tap into a new revenue stream that could benefit us significantly. We have lots of exciting plans for our Recast channel and are looking forward to bringing them to life."

Andy Meikle, Founder and CEO at Recast, added: "We are pleased to add Swindon Town FC to the growing number of rights holders going direct-to-consumer and bringing fans the content they want through Recast.

"With clubs finding great success through the platform, we know we are providing a much-needed solution that allows football clubs to revolutionise their digital strategy in a way that will future proof their club and bolster earnings for years to come. We are looking forward to helping Swindon Town FC to reap the rewards.”

New content will be available immediately to Swindon Town FC supporters on Recast, which helps sports and athletes to maximise their earning potential. This sees rights holders going direct-to-consumer and connecting fans to exclusive content via a subscription-free app, providing a new way to watch it all in one place.

About Recast

Recast is a revolutionary direct-to-customer video platform that connects rights holders, fans and brands on one single platform. Recast combines the ability to watch the best sporting action from any mobile device and the potential to earn in-app credits called ‘Casts’ - for both viewers and rights holders - through microtransactions.

Rights holders can monetise all their content, from 10-second clips to full live games, without the upfront costs of their own OTT platform. Fans will be able to earn through their engagement by watching adverts or purchase credits and make micropayments directly to rights holders to watch the sports they want. Rights holders can also cash out these credits, meaning they have the opportunity to generate more revenue than any other model.
