Reed on Sutton success

Midfielder gives his verdict on big win

21 October 2021

Louis Reed reflected on Swindon Town's superb 2-1 win away at Sutton United on Tuesday evening at the VBS Community Stadium.

The midfielder scored a stunning free-kick before Jonny Williams scored an equally brilliant effort as the Reds claimed another huge three points, and Reed gave his thoughts on the contest in the wake of the victory.

"It was a tough place to come," Reed said.

"We talked about their game-plan before the game but the lads stood up to it well, we battled well all night and Jonny's goal to win the game for us was outstanding.

"They are a lot different to any other team we've played so far. Although teams have been direct against us, Sutton are probably the most direct team in the division.

"They get it from back to front and it is really effective the way that they play.

"We had to come here and show them the respect they deserve because they are doing brilliantly this season, but we handled it well and the main thing was coming away with three points.

"I can't remember off the top of my head them having too many clear-cut chances, they had the odd one which Jojo (Wollacott) had to get down to and stop, but as a team we showed how well we can defend as a group.

"Hopefully that continues.

"I don't like to talk about myself but I've been working on them in training and I know the two Kit Men will be happy because they spend about half a day collecting half of my shots from the bushes!

"Luckily it went in.

"It is almost hitting it on the instep, off my big toe and that's how I line it up. It is then trying to create that bit of top spin to get it up and down quickly.

"I've been working on it since I've come through the door, and thankfully it has gone in."
