Swindon Town's Official Matchday Magazine for our Sky Bet League Two fixture against Port Vale on Saturday features an exclusive interview with Alex Gilbert!
'town' sat down with our Transfer Deadline Day recruit to discuss his impressive start to life at SN1, and you can read a snippet of our interview below..
Alex, you arrived on Transfer Deadline Day from Brentford, so can you explain what attracted you about coming to Town for the remainder of the 2021-22 season?
"I think seeing the big fanbase that the club has, the number of people they take to away games and the crowds they are getting at home games this season is a big thing. The football that the Manager has said he wants to play is a big selling point too, and they are also a winning side with good points on the board, so those were the main things that attracted me. Everyone wants to play in a winning team and for a team that is doing well."
The Gaffer is known for developing players and getting the best out of them, as well as implementing an attractive brand of football, so you must be excited to work with him too?
"I'm still young and still developing into the player that I want to become, so working with the Gaffer will be a great experience for me and a great opportunity to improve and kick-on again in my career."
You've come from a Premier League team, but this is a real opportunity for you to develop while gaining valuable experience of playing men's football where every game matters, isn't it?
"The next step for me in my career is playing regular and competitive football where you have to go and get three points at the end of the day. It is stepping out of that phase of development football and into results-based football where you've got to go and get a win. Sometimes it may not be pretty but, in our case, hopefully it is nice football and we like to play as you've seen, so hopefully we can get some wins playing some good football."
