Conroy - It was a very frustrating day

13 September 2021

Swindon Town Captain Dion Conroy gave a brutally honest assessment of what went wrong during Saturday's loss to Port Vale.

Despite Tyreece Simpson notching his second goal of the season thanks to Alex Gilbert's pinpoint cross, the Reds came up empty-handed at SN1 with Ben Garrity's double securing the three points for The Valiants.

And, in the wake of the game, Conroy spoke exclusively to swindontownfc.co.uk and gave an honest assessment of what just went wrong.

"It was a very frustrating day," Conroy said.

"We need to be better when teams come up on us and press us like they did in the first-half, we need to be better with the ball and they were a team that was going to come straight at us and make the game ugly and not allow us to play fluently.

"It was frustrating so on our part we need to be better when teams come up on us like that.

"The second-half was better but it was just a frustrating day.

"We just need to get back on the training ground, work on a few things and hopefully put things right next Saturday.

"They made the game very ugly but we've got to be better than that and we've got to work harder at pulling positions and getting in places where we can receive the ball and make them feel uncomfortable having to come out of areas.

"Like I said, we need to get on the training ground and work on a few things.

"We're still up there, it is early in the season and we've just got to work hard this week and put things right on Saturday."
