Odimayo happy with defensive consistency

Defender reflects on clean sheet success so far

Akin Odimayo feels Town's prowess at the back this season gives the team a good platform to build on going forward.

In the wake of Saturday's 0-0 draw with Colchester United at The County Ground, the Reds have kept four clean sheets in nine EFL Sky Bet League Two games.

That is testament to both the heroics of Goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott and the overall brilliance of the team's defensive performances, and Odimayo has stressed that he and his team mates must remain consistent in that department.

"Getting a clean sheet sets the platform for us," Odimayo told swindontownfc.co.uk.

"We tried to create chances and score in the game (against Colchester) but it just wasn't our day.

"From the back, though, if we are doing our job and keep a clean sheet then it gives the team the best possible opportunity to win the game.

"It is a good platform to build on.

"The priority for us at the back, and for Jojo (Wollacott) as well, is to keep clean sheets and just be consistent with it.

"We've just got to be consistent with it and try to concede the least amount of goals as possible during the season."

Odimayo returned to SN1 in the summer and is now thriving in a new role for Ben Garner's team, and the defender is loving having the ball at his feet and being able to play out from the back and express himself.

"Playing this way is the best way to play football," Odimayo continued.

"Playing out from the back and building from the back allows us to control the game, so it suits me and it has been really good.

"We impose our style of play in every game and we just need to build on it."
