Garner On Forest Green Test

Gaffer looks ahead to tonight

26 April 2022

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner is expecting a tough test from Forest Green Rovers in what is a must-win game tonight.

The Reds need a win later (7:45pm Kick-Off) in order to keep their Playoff hopes alive, while Rovers will be hoping to move three points closer to winning the league having secured promotion at the weekend.

As a result, Garner knows his side will have to be at their very best in order to come out with the win they so badly need.

"If you look at the top two of the division (FGR, Exeter City), they’ve been consistently at the top end of this league for the last two, three seasons certainly," Garner said.

"Either in the Playoffs, close to the Playoffs, or pushing for promotion. Both had a good core of players and added to it and added extra strength and depth this season.

"In Forest Green’s case, I think Rob (Edwards) has done a great job coming in. They look a really tight group. I know a couple of the lads there and they’re really good characters, really good players as well.

"They’re very fit, I’d say one of the fittest teams in the league without a doubt. I’ve seen them quite a few times live this season, obviously, playing against them earlier in the year. Very fit, very organised and a very functional team.

"They’ve had that lovely added extra of having front players that have scored goals for them and that’s obviously been key in what they have done.

"So, a really strong team, a really strong collective group.

"They deserve their promotion without any shadow of a doubt and we offer our congratulations to them for that and obviously offer full respect for what they’ve achieved.

"We won there earlier in the season and obviously, we’ll be looking to do so again tomorrow night."
