Garner looking forward to Tranmere

Gaffer looks ahead to tonight

8 February 2022

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner is looking forward to what should be a good game of football against Tranmere Rovers tonight.

The Reds hit the road later for this EFL Sky Bet League Two fixture at Prenton Park (7:45pm Kick-Off), and they will be looking to bounce back and return to winning ways.

And, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Garner reflected on the last meeting between these two sides before giving his views on tonight's matchup.

"Yeah, I remember it well. I thought we played really well on the night, but they were a threat on the counter attack and we had good chances on the second half in that game and it was a bit frustrating to come away 0-0," Garner said.

"So it’s a game we’re looking forward to.

"Our record, particularly away from home against the top teams is very very good, you know, and we can go there with real confidence.

"We’ve gone to Forest Green and won, we’ve gone to Newport, we’ve been to Sutton, we’ve been to Port Vale, we drew at Northampton.

"Against the teams at the top end of the table in this division, we’ve done very well away from home, so we have to take confidence from that and we just need that win to turn this momentum around. One game can change everything and hopefully that can be tomorrow night.

"Their defence has been their strength, without a shadow of a doubt. Peter Clarke is still one of the best in the division for what he does and defending that final third and they’re very organised under Mick (Micky Mellon) and are a really hard-working team.

"They play different shapes at different times, he’s got good versatility there, but their strength has been their defensive organisation and resilience. They’ve not let many goals in and that’s been the foundation for the success of their season so far."

And Garner is hoping to see another bumper away following from the Town faithful tonight, who have been outstanding on the road all season.

"The away following has been fantastic all season and we’ve had some great away days. Some top performances and some brilliant results. Hopefully, tomorrow night can be another one of those," Garner finished.
