Garner expecting tough test from Mansfield

Gaffer gives his take on tonight's game

11 January 2022

Swindon Town Head Coach Ben Garner is expecting the toughest of tests from Mansfield Town at One Call Stadium this evening.

The Reds are back in EFL Sky Bet League Two action this evening (7:30pm Kick-Off), and it will be a difficult task given that the Stags have collected an impressive 21 points from the last 24 available in the league.

As such, Mansfield are very much the form team in the division right now, and Garner is looking forward to the challenge awaiting his team.

"They actually started the season well and when we played them at home, I thought they were really good that day and a good side," Garner said at his pre-match press conference.

"It was a really tough game and after that they dropped off a little bit and had a little bit of a poor run of form, which surprised me at the time, but they've come on really strong since, they're the form team in the league and I think it is nine wins out of 10.

"They are a good team.

"They can pass the ball well, they have really good movement and rotation, particularly down that left-hand side, they are bright from their restarts and they look to do things quickly.

'They press as well as anyone in this division, so they are a really strong team in good form with a very experienced Manager there in Nigel Clough.

"It will be a really tough game but one we're looking forward to.

"I watched Mansfield's game against Middlesbrough, I watched three or four of the league games before that and Hartlepool was difficult to watch because it was really foggy on that day, so it was difficult to see anything.

"They played well on Saturday against Middlesbrough, they started off a little slow and they conceded two, but they then came really strong, finished the game really well and were really unlucky to lose it late on and they probably deserved to go to Extra-Time at the very least.

"Ad I say, they are a good side in good form and it is a big challenge but one we're looking forward to and we go there looking for the three points."
