TEAM NEWS: Payne progressing well

Latest fitness updates ahead of Tuesday

10 January 2022

Jack Payne is progressing well but will miss Swindon Town's trip to Mansfield Town in the EFL Sky Bet League Two on Tuesday night.

The Reds' influential midfielder picked up a knee injury in the 5-2 win over Northampton Town on New Year's Day, missing the Emirates FA Cup Third Round Tie against Manchester City on Friday night.

And, while Payne is progressing well, he won't be ready for tomorrow night's game at One Call Stadium (7:30pm) with Town Head Coach Ben Garner giving a fitness update at his pre-match press conference earlier today.

"Harry McKirdy is fine, it was just cramp and it was just the amount of running he did (on Friday) and probably the sprint he did for his celebration more than anything," Garner said.

"He's absolutely fine.

"Jack Payne is doing really well.

"He will do anything possible to get back quicker, so if that means working 24 hours a day, he would work 24 hours a day to do it.

"We'll probably know more at the backend of this week in terms of where he is on that, but he's progressing really well so far.

"Jonny Williams was fine and we had everyone in Saturday with no issues.

"Everyone else should be good."
