Football club and sponsor come together to present special gift to disabled fan

Town and Origin help make supporters visit to SN1 extra special with signed match ball…

Last week’s victory over Newport County will live long in the memory for one of our disabled fans, who was presented with a very special gift at the end of the game.

Swindon-born supporter Dave Foster, who is 49 and has cerebral palsy, was handed the match ball from our 5-0 victory over Walsall last season at the final whistle on Tuesday evening - signed by the Town squad.

Dave has been following Swindon religiously since his father took him to games as a child, and despite now living in Nottingham, he still attends matches at The County Ground whenever he can.

Origin, a local firm who specialise in providing site safety services across the area, were keen to donate the ball to a lucky fan at a home game this season and liaised with Caroline Lane – the club’s Disability Liaison Officer - over who it should be.

Dave is well known to the football club and across the local community and his name was suggested.

Founder and Director of Origin, Chris Haynes, said: “I sponsored the match ball for Swindon’s emphatic win back in February against Walsall, which was an incredible game to be involved with.

“We were kindly presented with the signed match ball after the tie by Man of the Match, Ricky Aguiar, but wanted to pass it on to a passionate Town fan, with Dave the chosen one.

“He’s such an inspiration with such a fantastic commitment to Swindon, and I’m extremely grateful to Julie, Caroline and the club for enabling us to facilitate such a special moment for him.”

Dave’s partner, Julie Bradshaw, said: “Dave has been a Swindon Town fan for 40 years.

“His father would take him to every home match and some away games too, often carrying him up to the North Stand.

“Dave fell in love with the club and has experienced lots of highs and lows, but will always love Swindon.

“To be chosen to receive the match ball is truly amazing and such an honour.”

A fantastic effort from everyone involved.
