Plymouth Argyle striker heads to The County Ground on initial loan deal...

1 September 2022

Swindon Town have completed the signing of Welsh striker Luke Jephcott from League One side Plymouth Argyle on an initial loan, with the option to make the deal a permanent one.

The 22-year-old has appeared 103 times in the league for The Pilgrims since joining them four years ago from non-league side Helston Athletic, scoring 33 times.

While still an apprentice, he made his professional debut in League One back in October 2018, featuring against Burton Albion after coming on as a late substitute.

His full debut came ten days later when he started in an EFL Trophy tie against Chelsea Under-21s.

During his time at Plymouth, he also had a loan spell at Southern League outfit Truro City, where he scored five goals in 18 league appearances.

Jephcott also comes with international pedigree, having represented Wales at both Under-19 and Under-21 level, scoring once for the latter.

Speaking to Town’s Media Team on his move to Wiltshire, Jephcott, said: “I’m really happy to be here and glad to get the deal over the line. I can’t wait to get going and score goals for this great club.

“It’s all happened very quickly to be honest, but I’m really happy. I’ve seen how Swindon play as well as the goals they score and the chances they create, and I think there is an opportunity for me to do really well here.

“I’m focused on getting that first team spot nailed down and hitting the ground running. I always set myself personal goal targets and I’ll be giving everything to achieve them.

“The fanbase here is superb and they generate a really good atmosphere, so I can’t wait to get up and running.”

Town First-Team Head Coach, Scott Lindsey, said: “This a great signing for the club and shows our intent.

“He’s a real fox in the box and a natural goal scorer. He’s also a player we’ve been keeping a close eye on for a while now, so I’m really pleased to have him in the building.

“He brings with him a wealth of League One experience with over a hundred appearances, and that can only be a huge positive for us.”

Town Technical Director, Sandro Di Michele, said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to get a player of Luke’s calibre into the club.

“Time constraints have meant we’ve only been able to get him in on loan for now, but we have an option to make the deal permanent which was our original plan, so having this in place is key for us.

“Luke is a top player with an exceptional goalscoring record in League One, as well as being a natural penalty box finisher, so the deal is a big one for the football club.”
