Tributes to Her late Majesty tonight

What to expect at The County Ground this evening ahead of the Sutton game…

13 September 2022

Swindon Town take on Sutton United tonight, kick off 7.45pm, as the League Two schedule resumes following the weekend’s postponements after Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, sadly passed.

Like all other league clubs in action this evening, we’ll be paying our respects before the game and wanted to provide you with an overview of what to expect if you’re attending The County Ground.

All players and officials will be wearing black armbands as a mark of respect, and all club staff required to wear suits on a match day will don a black tie.

We’ve changed our music playlist in the build-up to the game so it’s more fitting for the occasion, and will feature ‘Fanfare of the Common Man’ and ‘Wise Man Sing’ before the players enter the field.

The players will emerge from the tunnel and enter the arena in silence.

We will then have a special tribute to Her late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, read out on the PA system before the referee signals a minutes silence.

Then, Cathy Hobson from Swindon’s Kentwood Show Choir will sing the national anthem, to which you are all encouraged to join in.

If you are attending tonight, we encourage you to take your seat in the stadium no later than 7.20pm, so we’re all in place to pay our respects in good time.

Please join us in paying tribute to Her late Majesty this evening as we come together as a football club to recognise a truly remarkable lady.

Thank you.
