Jacob Wakeling up for EFL Young Player of the Season

Town ace shortlisted for top accolade...

11 April 2023

Swindon Town attacker Jacob Wakeling has been shortlisted for the 2023 EFL Young Player of the Season Award.

The 21-year-old, who joined Town back in the summer after his release from Premier League side Leicester City, has racked up over 37 league appearances in a Robins shirt this term.

During that time, he's netted seven goals and weighed in with five assists as Swindon look to break back into the to as we reach the business end of the current campaign.

Jacob also scooped the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month Award for February for his audacious effort against Salf City, as he somehow created a chance out nothing, spinning and flicking the ball into the back of The Ammies net with back to goal.

That strike, scored in the 26th minute of the game, saw Town come from behind to earn a valuable 2-1 win at The Peninsula Stadium.

His consistent performances this term have now earned him a place on the FL Young Player of the Season Award shortlist, with each divisional winner set to be announced on Sunday 23 April.

He'll be up against two defensive players for the honour, in the shape of Colchester United's Junior Tchamadeu and Jayden Sweeney of Leyton Orient.

Good luck Jakey!
