Welcoming an older generation of Town mascots to SN1

Official Supporters Club give away provides rare opportunity for older Town fans to lead out the first-team…

You’ll notice a slightly older group of mascots walking alongside our players when they enter the field this coming Friday as we gear up to host Mansfield Town at the County Ground.

Thanks to our fantastic Official Supporters Club, we’re able to host 11 passionate Town fans, all of whom are aged 60 and over, who will get to enjoy a tailored mascot experience like no other.

The initiative is all part of a free giveaway from the OSC, who purchased the packages themselves in order to run a competition targeted at a slightly older generation of Robins fan to give them the opportunity to soak up the County Ground atmosphere and get a taste of what it’s like to be a matchday mascot.

All supporters needed to do was nominate someone for the competition and the winners were selected by an independent panel of judges.

The OSC introduced the senior mascots initiative back in 2020, but were only able to host their winners for the visit of Barrow back in April last year.

Hannah Clinch, Voluntary Events Coordinator for the Supporters Club, said: “As a group, we wanted to do something a little bit different.

“We identified a gap in the market and realised that some of our older fans were unlikely to have had these opportunities available to them as a youngster.

“We want to try and reverse the stereotype that mascots should always be from younger generations, and through this initiative, we aim to give deserving individuals and lifelong supporters a memorable day with us at the County Ground.”

On hosting the lucky winners last season, Hannah added: “It was a brilliant day and one that we all thoroughly enjoyed.

“We met new people that we may not otherwise have connected with and I’ve heard so many fantastic stories that fellow fans had about their time supporting Town.

“I loved the enthusiasm talking about our season in the Premier League, and maybe one day we’ll get there again.”

Good luck to them all on Friday, and we can't wait to welcome them to SN1.
