Khan earns latest international call-up

Midfielder will link up with Gambia in September ahead of final AFCON qualifier

25 August 2023

Midfielder Saidou Khan has earned his latest call up to the Gambian national team ahead of their upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

The 27-year-old will join up with his teammates in two weeks, ahead of their final group stage Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo on Sunday 10 September.

Khan previously received a call-up at the end of last season, following an impressive first season with Town since his move from National League side Chesterfield, where it finished by being involved in the Gambian matchday squad that beat South Sudan 3-2 last time out.

In the group, Gambia currently sit second with just one game remaining, three points behind current leaders Mali, and three points ahead of third place Congo.

After a crucial 3-2 victory last time out, The Scorpions will be aiming to consolidate their second place, a position that would see them into the next stages of qualifying.

When talking about his latest call-up in the pre-match press conference for Crawley, Saidou said, When I last got called up, there were two games to go and this time there's now one game where we just need a draw or a win to qualify for AFCON.

"So I want to be part of that, but to be part of that, I've got to perform at Swindon.

"So it's a motivation for me and obviously looking at Swindon we want to get promoted so it's double motivation for me.

"If I can get promoted here and be part of a squad that's in AFCON, it'll be a big achievement for me this season."

Good luck, Sads!
