Kinsella: "I can’t wait to get going"

New Swindon Town midfielder Liam Kinsella says he can’t wait to get started at the club, after making his first County Ground appearance in Saturday’s 3-1 friendly victory over Plymouth Argyle.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” said the 27-year-old. “I started training on Monday with the boys, and I’m delighted to get something over the line now and look forward to the year.

Asked how he’s found it settling in with his new teammates, Kinsella beamed, “The lads have been outstanding all week. I’ve seen the talent that they’ve got and all the players are building into what the gaffer wants from them.

Kinsella’s arrival in SN1 sees him reunite with Town boss Michael Flynn and Wayne Hatsfield, with whom he worked with at Walsall last term.

“The work they put in, they’re winners. They put so much hard work in for the players,” he said of his manager and assistant manager.

“I like to bring that experienced head to the dressing room,” added the former Republic of Ireland U21 international, who also has a wealth of EFL experience and more than 200 appearances across League One and Two under his belt.

On his style of play, the midfielder said, “I like to put a tackle in when I get the chance to, I like to win the ball back, give it to the boys and get them forward to score as many goals as possible.

Having spent his entire playing career to date with Walsall, Kinsella admitted it felt like the right time to make the move, “I think the time was right for me to start something new, thankfully Swindon was the club that came in for me.

“It’s a fantastic club, big club and I’m absolutely buzzing to be here and can’t wait to get going.”
