Match Preview: Oxford United U18s vs Swindon Town U18s

Swindon Town U18s travel to Oxford for derby day

25 August 2023

Kick-off is at 11am at Bangkok Glass Training Ground, and Town will be looking to build on their impressive 5-2 win against Newport County U18s last Saturday in Youth Alliance Division.

The Robins will be at an all-time high with the likes of Abu Kanu, Miles Obodo, Harley Hunt, Josh Keyes and Finn Adams all getting first-team call-ups for the games against Arsenal U21s midweek in the EFL Cup.

Valuable experience for all of those chosen and will be looking to put it to good use against Oxford United tomorrow.

Both teams have won and lost a game, but Oxford will be without their striker Josh Iheanacho who has joined Aylesbury United on a work experience loan.

This game will provide a good test for The Reds as they look to start replicating the same form as last season.

Lead professional development phase coach Sean Wood had this to say about the game tomorrow:

“In terms of the local derby, I would expect our boys to be up for the game.

“Having a lot of U18s coming through our academy they will know what the game brings, and we will need to compete.”

Wood also reacted to Kanu and Obodo getting minutes for the first team by saying:

“Abs and Miles are looking sharp and playing with lots of confidence at the moment, so let’s hope they take that into the game tomorrow.”

Wood finished by mentioning the build-up to the game tomorrow:

“Another game towards the boy’s development, we will look to maintain consistency and continue to show learning from this week’s training into matchday.”
