Swindon got their first win away from home this season in a 4-1 win against Oxford United. A goal from Fletcher Hubbard and a hat-trick from Abu Kanu was enough to seal a result last Saturday.
Lead professional development phase coach Sean Wood played a big part in Saturday’s win with tactical excellence as Oxford seemed to struggle with the high press style of play.
When reflecting on the performance, Wood had this to say:
“We focus a lot on performance over result.
“The boys have implemented the game plan really well.
“I think there is a real desire to show learning and problem-solving within games now.
Wood also talked about the ethics and future of the academy, as they look to build on what's been a positive start both on and off the pitch:
“All our staff are working extremely hard to make sure we develop the right culture at our football club.
“Let’s hope we see more good times over the coming weeks.”
The manager was also really impressed by Abu Kanu having said this about the young forward:
“Abu has had a good week.
“Brilliant goals on Saturday especially the third and we look forward to seeing what this will bring.”
“We look forward to him continuing to perform to the levels we would expect from him.”
