Town Women continued their impressive form in the league last weekend

Swindon Town Women continued their strong run in the FA WNL with a 4-0 home victory over Torquay United at Foundation Park last Sunday.

A brace each for Annie Colston and the returning Ellie Strippel gave Town a comprehensive victory over Torquay United Women last weekend, with both players getting a goal each on either side of the half-time interval.

There were two changes from the side which narrowly fell to an FA Cup second-round defeat to AFC Bournemouth, with Billie Haynes and Ellie Strippel returning to the starting XI.

From the first minute, Swindon looked the more threatening side, with winger Helena Diaz-Butcher looking for Annie Colston just a few minutes in but the Gulls just about managed to clear the threat.

But five minutes later, Torquay couldn't stop Town this time with Strippel scoring his first of the game in the ninth minute, as the similar threat of Diaz-Butcher found the attacking midfielder who took the ball and found the space to poke the ball home and get Swindon off to a promising start.

The first half evened out for the next 30 minutes of the game with both sides looking for their next opening to ignite the game and it would be Swindon who achieved this with Annie Colston's first of the game just before the half-time break.

With two minutes to go before the midway interval, Colston made a solo run into the box, before facing Torquay's keeper one-on-one and showed great composure to slice the ball past the onrushing Gulls shot-stopper to give Town a two-goal lead and a confident feeling of victory going into the second half.

After that first half, more opportunities came and chances opened up for both sides, with Swindon's keeper Emily McGrogan forced into a good save in the 52nd minute, tipping the ball to the right-hand side and keeping Swindon's clean sheet intact.

Town responded with Colston firing an effort three minutes later, but could only see an edge-of-the-box strike bounce back agonisingly off the post, with Swindon hungry for more goals with just over a third of the game to play.

64th minute and Swindon had a third with Strippel crossing the ball from her own half over to the threatening Colston, who beat the race to the ball with Torquay's keeper to score Swindon's third with just under 30 minutes to play.

Five minutes later, Town found their fourth with Strippel again involved to provide a goal for her side and after showing great composure in the Torquay penalty box, she found the back of the net to prove her importance in the side after returning from injury.

A few late changes came Town's way and brought fresh legs to the Swindon side late on, and allowed the Women to be able to see out the comprehensive 4-0 home victory and give them plenty of belief going into their next test very soon.

With a County Cup test for the Women's team coming up, they will now look to prepare for their away trip to Melksham next weekend.
