Swindon Town Women progress to the quarter-finals of the Wiltshire FA County Cup

Town advance to next round with comprehensive victory

19 December 2023

Swindon Town Women comfortably progressed to the next stage of the Wiltshire County Cup, overcoming Melksham Town on Sunday afternoon.

Goals through Billie Haynes (x2), Georgia Vandries (x6), Meg Jarvis (x5), first-team debutant Maddie Hines, Mia Mugford, and Emison Evans (x4) secured the impressive victory for Town.

Following the strong showing, Town will now look ahead to their quarter-final test against Royal Wootton Bassett Town, which is currently scheduled to take place in mid-January next month.

Following the victory, Swindon Town Women's Assistant Manager Jonny House said: “A lot of people will comment on the scoreline and squad selection but we want to create a high-performance environment at STWFC.

“That doesn’t happen if we lower our standards and professionalism at any point.

“We spoke a lot in the build-up to this game about both of these things and I think we did well on both fronts today."

During the game, there were plenty of positives to take from the game, with First Team debuts for Gee Vandries and Shawna Hannam, first-team debuts for development players Maddie Hines, Kayley Drury, Freya White and Tilda Borthwick and a debut goal for Maddie Hines too.

House continued: We want the first team to be something that players on our development pathway aspire to be a part of.

“It was great to see Maddie, Kayley, Tilda and Freya step into the first team and make such a positive impact.

“All four displayed all of the qualities we want to see in our young players and should be incredibly proud of themselves.

“A huge amount of credit must go to Melksham who stuck to their style and principles throughout the game and can hold their heads up high."
