Swindon Town have completed a deal for former Chelsea and England youth international George McEachran, subject to EFL approval.

The 22-year-old heads to the County Ground on a free transfer, and signs a contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the current season.

George, who is the younger brother of MK Dons’ Josh McEachran, spent 13 years at Chelsea after joining them back in 2009.

In 2018 he was promoted to their first-team, and was an unused substitute for The Blues in their 2019 UEFA Europa League Final success over Arsenal, as Maurizio Sarri’s side claimed victory with a 4-1 win.

The following season, he spent a short time out on loan in the Netherlands, joining SC Cambuur in the Dutch second division.

During the 2020/21 campaign, he returned to the Dutch football for another loan spell, this time with MVV Maastricht, where he made three appearances.

On the international front, McEachran was a member of the England side that finished runners-up at the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, scoring in a 4-0 group stage victory over Ukraine.

He went on to be named in the Team of the Tournament and be part of the Young Lions squad that would go one better at the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

In a side that featured the likes of Phil Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White and Jadon Sancho, England would beat Spain 5-2 in the final to lift the trophy in India.

Town Technical Director, Sandro Di Michele, said: “George will bring real energy and technical quality to our midfield, so this is a fantastic signing for us.

“He has good pedigree from his time at Chelsea, and now has the opportunity to fulfil his potential here at Swindon Town.”

After confirmation his move to SN1 was official, George, said: “It feels great to be here and back in football at a really great club.

“I’m delighted to be a part of Jody’s team and what he is trying to achieve with a relatively young side, and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m a player that likes to get on the ball using my technical ability to create chances, so I’m hoping I can get some minutes under my belt early on and focus on pinning down a regular starting place in this team to drive us forward.”
