Swindon Town Community Foundation hosted their Opening Ceremony today for their brand new, state-of-the-art training facility that will accompany Foundation Park which opened in January 2020.
The addition of the Training Centre will allow the Community Foundation to provide vulnerable groups and people with disabilities, the opportunity to play in a sheltered location, whatever the weather.
In February 2023, the Community Foundation announced that the centre would be named the ‘Nigel Eady Training Centre’ in recognition of Nigel’s legacy and the wonderful support and contribution received from the Nigel Eady Trust fund towards Foundation Park.
The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Gary Herbert and John Carter, executors of the Nigel Eady Trust and the event was attended by over 100 supporters and friends of the Foundation including representatives of other Swindon Sports Clubs and members of local government.
The facility is another example of the outstanding work that Jon Holloway, Shane Hewlett and their teams do, in order to cater and deliver excellent footballing and social activities and sessions within the Community.
The opening of the facility adds to the fantastic year that the Community Foundation team are having after they were awarded Community Club of the Season by the EFL in the annual EFL Community Awards 2023.
Swindon Town, Chief Executive Officer, Rob Angus commented on the opening of the Nigel Eady Training Centre: “This new facility will bring great benefits to our local community and gives further credit to the great work that Jon Holloway and Shane Hewlett and the rest of the team at our wonderful STFC Community Foundation do across our local community."
“The new facility is also testament to the legacy from our STFC Super-fan, Nigel Eady, which once again following on from recently enabling us to purchase the County Ground provides another great legacy for Swindon Town Football Club and the community of Swindon.”
Head of Foundation, Jon Holloway added: “This brand new, state-of-the-art facility represents our commitment to the people of Swindon, and the community that has been built around the Football Club.”
“After opening Foundation Park in 2019, we identified another gap in the provision of sports facilities in Swindon.”
“Today marks another momentous day for the Foundation, and we’re very proud to be able to provide even more people with access to top quality sports facilities – right on their doorstep.”
