Town Sign Dan Kemp

Midfielder arrives from MK Dons

18 July 2023

Swindon Town are delighted to announce the signing of MK Dons midfielder Dan Kemp on a season-long loan, subject to EFL approval.

The 24-year-old graduated from West Ham United's academy back in 2015 following a 10-year spell in Chelsea's academy as a youngster.

Despite making several EFL Trophy appearances for the Hammers, Kemp would move temporarily in a bid for regular match minutes, with loans at EFL League One and Two sides Stevenage and Blackpool across the 2020-21 season.

Kemp moved on from West Ham ahead of the next season, transferring to fellow London side Leyton Orient prior to the start of the 2021-22 season, and went on to become a first-team regular across their League Two campaign.

The versatile midfielder would continue to impress during his time with Orient, earning a move to his current club MK Dons in League One, where he has currently made 10 appearances in the third tier of English football.

However, it is Kemp's most recent stay with previous League Two side Hartlepool United where he has impressed the most, scoring nine times in 16 appearances, resulting in a deserved EFL League Two Player of the Month award back in February, with Kemp eager to replicate this kind of form with Town.

Speaking to Town’s Media Team, he said: "The manager and I have had good chats from when I've played against his teams over the years and with the club the way it is, the philosophy and the way of playing, I'm just excited to be here.

"I've always come up against Swindon teams and felt they are a really good club, so many different reasons to come here but I just feel like this is the right move for this stage in my career."

Town’s Manager, Michael Flynn, said: “I'm really looking forward to working with him.

"He had a very, very successful loan period at the end of last season with Hartlepool, hitting double figures in goals and assists and I think with his ability and his upbringing where he came through, we've got a player on our hands!

"It's not just his goals, but his set-piece delivery too and he can play in a number of positions so he will provide competition across the midfield, which is great for us."
