Swindon Town’s chief sustainability officer Michael Doughty is encouraging Robins fans and the local community to join him this weekend for a short run or walk - and everyone is invited.
The former Robins midfielder, who took up his new environmental role at SN1 back in January, is donning the running shoes and inviting fans of all ages and abilities to join him on a short jog around the County Ground ahead of our home clash with Stockport County this coming Saturday (25 March).
Those taking part will not only come together to get pulses racing and embrace the joys of exercise, but given the chance to recycle their old shoes as part of the first ‘green’ initiative under Michael’s sustainability tenure here at the football club.
We’ve installed a special recycling bin outside our club shop where you can donate your unwanted shoes, and these are then collected by Hylo – Michael’s sustainable sports brand - for the materials to be reused and turned into sliders.
Whenever you post a pair here at SN1, simply follow the instructions on the bin itself to register your details and receive discounts on Hylo products.
Those recycling their old shoes this weekend will be in with a chance of winning two hospitality tickets to a forthcoming home game alongside Michael.
We’re also throwing in a signed, limited edition Swindon Town away shirt and a free pair of Hylo running shoes, worth around £140.
Across the UK each year, it’s estimated we throw away more than 300-million pairs of shoes, with around 90% of these ending up in landfill.
It also takes an average of 30 to 40 years for a single pair of shoes to decompose, highlighting the need for us all to do more.
So come and join Michael outside SN1 at midday on Saturday (25 March) and bring those unwanted shoes with you to help us kick start our environmental journey.
