Jonny Williams departs

Midfielder to leave at end of contract

20 May 2023

Following the announcement of Swindon Town’s retained list, it has been confirmed that Jonny Williams will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer.

Jonny, a vastly experienced midfielder with more than 30 international appearances for Wales, joined the club as a free agent in the summer of 2021 following the expiry of his contract with Championship side Cardiff City.

In his time with the Robins, Jonny quickly established himself as a fans’ favourite, and eventually made 77 league appearances for the club, scoring 15 times and providing an assist on seven occasions.

Jonny’s ten goals over the course of the 2022/23 Sky Bet League Two campaign earned him the title of Town’s top-goalscorer, and saw him nominated for the club’s Player of the Year award.

Looking back on his time with the club, Jonny said, “I’ve really enjoyed my two years playing for Swindon Town. I’ve met some fantastic people on and off the pitch and have played with some great teammates. Unfortunately, we just fell short of the main goal which was to get promoted but I hope the club gets back to where it belongs.

“My proudest achievement would have to be playing 84 games for the club, getting 15 goals and 10 assists,” said Jonny, on his fondest memories as a Robin. “Making the play-offs last year was a fantastic achievement bearing in mind the position the club was in pre season.

“I’d just like to thank everyone at Swindon Town for all of your support through the highs and lows and making me feel so at home for the last two years. I have made some great memories and Swindon will always hold a special place in my heart. I really hope the club returns to where it belongs in the near future! Thank you.”

Everyone at Swindon Town Football Club would like to thank Jonny for his efforts over the last two years and wish him luck in his future career.
