Following the announcement of Swindon Town’s retained list, it has been confirmed that Mathieu Baudry will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer.
French defender Mathieu, aka ‘Frenchie’, signed for Town as a free agent in the summer of 2019 following his release from MK Dons.
In the four years since, Frenchie made 77 appearances for the Robins, scoring twice.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Frenchie said, “The fans have been great with me and their passion for the club is unbelievable.
“Obviously captaining the [2019/20] promotion side for a large part of that season is up there, but really what we achieved in the takeover season [2021/22], and keeping it going with the five to six players and short staff for the pre-season, and to go on to have the season we had; I take pride off that. The players and staff that were here that pre-season drove it ourselves with the core group we had, and it laid the foundations for what followed when the new owner and new staff joined in.
Sadly, Frenchie’s 2022/23 campaign was brought to a devastating and premature end when he suffered an ACL injury in December, “I wish my time at the club wasn’t hampered as much by injuries,” said Mathieu. “I wish I gave more to this great club and passionate fanbase.
“I still remember some great memories: Exeter at home, Forest Green at home, Walsall away, and the play-off to name a few. But to share that with my family, my boy especially, was special, so I thank you for everything and I will be rooting for the club.”
