Swindon Town Football Club are proud to announce the release of ‘Suzie and Sammy go to Swindon Town FC’, a children’s book written by author Charlotte Olson which focuses on the sensory issues that often arise for young supporters at a football match.
The story follows Suzie and Sammy, who go to their first Town game but are worried about the noise and the large crowds.
Copies of the story are to be placed in local schools and libraries across Swindon, and more than 100 books will be available to purchase through the official club store - from today.
Caroline Lane, Disability Liaison Officer, said: “Absolutely delighted to have worked with Charlotte, the Author of Suzie Books, who has created a simple social story to help young children cope with certain situations and prepare them to attend their first football match.
“As a Club we want to make it inclusive for many children and young adults without it becoming a sensory overload.”
Author, Charlotte Olson says: “I really enjoyed working with Swindon Town and creating this wonderful book and I hope it will be useful for so many families.
"Thank you to the Swindon Town Supporters Club for their help and funding.”
Chris Kyle of Official Swindon Town Supporters Club, said: “We are pleased to fund the creation and initial print run of this book, and the finished article is fabulous.
“Our aim is to help all fans and if this helps prepare anyone for what to expect on their first visit to The County Ground, then it is a success.”
Swindon Town Chief Executive Officer, Rob Angus said: “These social story books illustrate more great work to make supporting Swindon Town and coming to the County Ground more accessible.
"Thanks to the Official Supporters Club in funding this development. We are looking forward to sharing many of these books with local schools so they can use them with the children they have with sensory needs who may be keen to go to football games.
“We hope these lovely books make the difference and give these children and their families the confidence to come to the County Ground.”
