Swindon Town Football Club are delighted to announce that Michael Flynn will remain as Swindon Town Manager until the end of the 2025/26 season, after agreeing a new long-term contract.

Assistant Manager and Swindon-local Wayne Hatswell has also signed a deal to continue in his role as assistant manager.

The duo arrived at The County Ground following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, with Town finishing last season in 10th place.

Flynn and Hatswell began the current season spectacularly, seeing the club begin this season with a nine-game unbeaten start and continue to compete for the promotion places so far this campaign.

Swindon chairman Clem Morfuni said: “We are delighted to be able to continue our journey with Michael and Wayne as they look to continue leading our team on the pitch.

“Their commitment, hard work and the overall exciting style of play they have been insistent on bringing to the club since their arrival in the summer, makes them a perfect match for Swindon and our supporters.”

Chief executive Anthony Hall added: “We want to take the club to the next level and compete with the top teams. To do that, we have to have the right management team in place and in Michael and Wayne we believe we have this.

“We have to be able to evolve the team, improve our players, improve all departments, generate even more connection with our fans, improve the atmosphere at the County Ground, be able to recruit top, talent and the best people for the club.

“We believe with extending both Michael's and Wayne's contracts we have the right team to achieve our goals.

“We are positive about the direction both they and we as a football club are going in with those two at the helm of the Men's team, and we look forward to what the future holds over the next few years.”

Michael Flynn said: “Since day one, I have simply loved my time at Swindon Town, and I'm delighted to secure my future with the club that the brilliant supporters here deserve.

“In the short time that we have been here, we have seen the love and passion that the supporters of Swindon have for this football club.

“With the support of Clem, Anthony, Jamie Russell and all those I work with at the club regularly, we are confident that we will create a team that you can be proud of.

“We will work relentlessly to create and build on what we see will be a high-performance environment for the players, and as a result, deliver consistent success for Swindon Town FC.

“Our ambition is to develop players, staff and all those involved in the football club daily, while playing fast, attacking – and, most importantly, successful – football.

“Today is about securing our future with the club and looking to build on the successful start we've made so far. While we will always take learnings from disappointing moments, we are laser-focused to live in the moment and enjoy the challenges that this journey will bring.

“One thing is for sure – we cannot do this alone. It is the Swindon Town support that defines us as a football club and we can't wait to work with you for a few more years to deliver the success that we know we as a football club are capable of!”

Flynn was previously in charge of fellow League Two side Walsall, having enjoyed great success with Newport County during their four years in charge.

Reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup with County, the first time the club achieved this since 1949, whilst also delivering above expectations to narrowly miss out on promotion in 2018-19 and 2020-21, as Flynn looks to go one step further with Town during his time with the club.

Flynn also had a successful career as a professional, making over 400 appearances in the game, and delivering in success with winning the Second Division with Wigan Athletic in 2002-03, as well as leading hometown club Newport to Conference Premier play-off success in 2013.
