Town finished their Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat to an experienced League One Exeter City on Tuesday evening.

Exeter opened the scoring in the sixth minute through an unfortunate Harrison Minturn goal in the sixth minute which ended up being the only goal of the game.

However, similar to previous fixtures in this competition this season, allowed more of Town's youngsters to impress, with the likes of Anton Dworzak, Joel McGregor, Sonny Hart, Miles Obodo and Fletcher Hubbard given the chance from the start.

With the League One side naming a strong XI for the final group stage game, they began the game on the front foot and despite the young Swindon defence's best efforts, the Grecians would score the opening goal through an unlucky Kinsella defending a cross that frustrating landed in the back of his own net.

Swindon's defence continued to be pushed early in the game but held their own for the following 15 minutes against an experienced League One side that continued to probe Town's young back-line.
It was the turn of Town's forward to try and come forward, with Miles Obodo and Fletcher Hubbard almost able to combine and set through the former one-on-one, but Exeter's Will Aimson was, unfortunately, able to stop the young forward from breaking through just past the 20-minute mark.
Town had another good chance on the break in the 36th minute, with Anton Dworzak and Brooklyn Genesini combining well to allow Joel McGregor to cross, but his drilled cross was blocked at the near post by the onrushing Exeter defender.
Another late chance came for Swindon in the 39th minute, with winger Fletcher Hubbard connecting with a deep Joel McGregor cross, but his volleyed effort into the turf was well-blocked by the Exeter defence and ended what was a fairly uneventful first half.

Half-time: Swindon 0 Exeter 1

The second half continued in a well-contested manner following the opening goal early in the game, with Swindon's youngsters continuing to press an experienced League One line-up.

An opportunity came 10 minutes into the second 45, with a neat move that found Miles Obodo who looked to turn and shoot on the spin, but his touch just got away from him and Exeter eventually cleared the danger.

After this chance, neither side looked to threaten for the majority of the remainder of the game, with some late defending from Swindon's defence denying a late second for the visitors.

The game played out a narrow 1-0 defeat in the end for Town, as they exited the Bristol Street Motors Trophy with a key positive being the Academy youngsters who gained more minutes in first-team football, and those first-team players involved gaining more invaluable fitness ahead of this weekend's next league test against Mansfield at The County Ground.
