Swindon Town U18s 3-0 Cheltenham Town U18s

Town end Robins impressive streak

3 October 2023

Swindon Town U18s made it four wins in a row in the Youth Alliance League, with a 3-0 victory against Cheltenham Town U18s on Saturday.

Two early goals for Swindon from Hubbard and Obodo set the tone for the rest of the game as it was a brilliant start from The Town in the first ten minutes.

It would be a debut goal for Owiti to seal all three points in the second half, Sean Wood and his side will look to take valuable lessons from this performance as they look to continue to push towards the top of the Youth Alliance table.

It was a bright start from the young stars of Swindon but it would be Hubbard who would shine the brightest as he caught a volley perfectly on the edge of the box to get Town’s first goal of the game.

Obodo would extend the lead less than two minutes later with yet another great goal as he used his right foot to curl the ball past Cheltenham Town's goalkeeper.

Town had the chance to extend their lead through Harry Gray who found himself on the end of a deflected ball, but the youngster couldn’t quite keep his shot down.

10 minutes later and again Town put the pressure on, Gray would put an inch-perfect ball to Obodo but saw his shot dealt with well by the Cheltenham goalkeeper, with Swindon holding onto just the two-goal advantage going into the half-time interval.

Half-time: Swindon Town U18s 2-0 Cheltenham Town U18s

It would be Obodo who would have his head in his hands, this would be after a ball across the box from Harry Chard would leave Obodo with an open goal and to his own surprise would manage to put it wide.

It would be a managerial masterclass from Sean Wood that would play a part in Swindon’s next goal, as he brought on Owiti who would do exactly what he was told to do, being in the right place at the right time as a deflected shot would hit the forward to get his first goal for the U18s this season.

It would be a defensive masterclass that would see out the rest of the game for The Town. With Cheltenham not failing to score in all games so far this season, a late partnership between Liam Hutt, Sonny Hart and Finlay Adams would stop Cheltenham’s streak this season.

Following this result, Swindon looks ahead to their next contest against West Ham United U18s today at home for a midweek friendly.
