A trip to the South Coast ended in a frustrating 3-1 defeat for Town Women

4 September 2023

Swindon Town Women suffered their first defeat of the season with an unfortunate 3-1 defeat away to Exeter City Women on Sunday.

The game was relatively equal with the scoreline being 1-1 until the 87th minute when two were conceded within three minutes.

Helena Diaz-Butcher put Swindon 1-0 ahead in the opening minutes as Annie Colston sent a ball over the top to Diaz-Butcher who weaved past the Exeter defence and slotted it into the bottom left corner of the goal to open up the score sheet.

The first half saw Emily McGrogan’s safe hands come into play as she swept in on Exeter's attacking and saved an attempted direct goal from a free kick.

Though, ten minutes before half-time, Exeter scored the equaliser, and continued to push from there.

Alike the start of the game, the opening action of the second half came from Swindon as Annie Colston attempted to hit a shot from afar but it fell into the hands of Bond.

The last 45 minutes of the game proved mostly uneventful with not much action in the second half until the closing minutes.

Within the last three minutes of the 90, Town conceded the two late goals to cost them any points for their travels.
