Town Women take three points on the road

22 April 2024

Swindon Town Women got back to winning ways in their penultimate fixture in the 23/24 FAWNL season, as they beat Abingdon United Women 2-0 at The Armadillo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

A brace from Gipsy Viveash in the second half ensured the victory for Town Women, as they got back to winning ways in the league following their impressive victory in the final of the Wiltshire County Cup Final against Purton Women the weekend prior.

Early chances came Town's way through a series of corners, but unfortunately, Town could not make them count just past the 15-minute mark.

Town keeper Emily McGrogan was forced into a good save midway through the first half to keep the score level and keep Swindon pushing forward.

Following this moment, a good spell of pressure nearly paid off after Helena Diaz-Butcher made a brilliant run down the right wing and got herself into the box to Annie Colston but unfortunately, the league's top scorer couldn't direct her effort goalward and kept Town searching for the opener in the 29th minute.

The game started to become a well-fought contest for both sides, with both going into the interval looking to break the deadlock in the second 45.

Swindon Town Women came out firing in the second half and it would be full-back Gypsy Viveash finally opening the scoring as the defender drove the ball into the box and fired the ball into the back of the net with a powerful effort just minutes after the second half started.

It wasn’t long after Viveash got her second of the game in almost identical fashion to her first, with the full-back slotting home in the 54th minute to give Town and Viveash her second of the day.

During the latter stages of the last 45, the game fell quiet with not much going forward however Swindon were the stronger side to keep any chances away from the home side and look to cement the victory and the impressive clean sheet away from home.

Swindon Town Women comfortably took away the 2-0 victory and will take a lot of positives and confidence going into their final game of the 2023/24 season against Torquay United on Sunday afternoon.
