Swindon Town U18s 2-2 Stevenage U18s

Two penalties in stoppage time saw Swindon Town U18s grab a 2-2 draw at home against Stevenage U18s in Merit League One on Tuesday afternoon.

Town found themselves two goals down after conceding one in the first half and another late in the second.

But a couple of late spot kicks scored by Botan Ameen and George Alston saw Swindon nick a point at the death.

Sean Wood made a number of changes to the team that impressively defeated Portsmouth 6-1 last time out, and the U18’s boss would have certainly been hoping for more of the same.

However, it wasn’t the start that Swindon would have wanted, with Stevenage opening the scoring 25 minutes into the contest.

It was almost two on the half-hour mark, but Redman Evans got down well to save at his near post and keep the deficit at just one as Town looked for a response in the second half.

But in the 84th minute, the visitors doubled their lead, and it seemed like the game was all but over.

However, Town were given a lifeline in minute 90, with forward Ameen being brought down in the box before stepping up to convert the penalty that he won.

There was to be more late drama, with Swindon winning another penalty just a couple of minutes later, with captain Jaxon Brown being taken out by the opposition’s goalkeeper.

The pressure was then put on the shoulders of substitute Alston, and he made no mistake from 12 yards to earn him and his Swindon Town side a point in their latest league contest.

It takes their unbeaten streak in the league to four games, and next up is a trip to Plymouth on Saturday, marking the first of back-to-back away fixtures in Merit League One.
