Town make it through to the Wiltshire FA Women’s County Cup final

12 February 2024

Swindon Town Women cruised to the final of the Wiltshire FA Women’s County Cup, following a 3-1 away victory to Warminster Town Ladies at Greens Lane Playing Fields on Sunday.

Two goals for Meg Jarvis and a goal from Tia Rees on her first-team debut gave Town Women a comfortable semi-final victory.

It was an even start to the game as both teams were battling hard in the first 10 minutes, but Swindon had the first real opportunity with Jarvis who saw a good shot on goal from the edge of the box fall into the hands of Warminster's Footner.

Reaching the 20-minute mark, Jarvis again came close with another effort from range forced just over the tip of the Warminster crossbar.

Town Women were the more threatening side in the first half and held firm just before the break with late pressure from Warminster Ladies, as they looked to build on their initial strong showing in the first half to see them through to the final.

Swindon came out with the stronger attacking threat in the second half and finally saw the first goal of the game come through debutant Tia Rees with a beautiful shot from change that swerved over the keeper and into the back of the net nicely.

Two minutes later, the threatening Jarvis finally got herself on the scoresheet twice in quick succession, with her first coming two minutes later from Rees' opener.

From a well-worked set piece, Jarvis was given just enough time and space that allowed her to shoot from the centre of the half and see her effort fall comfortably into the net to give Swindon a two-goal lead.

Seven minutes later Jarvis got Swindon's third, following lovely footwork from the forward and a well-timed assist from Holly Beck-Esson who was able to find Jarvis with an easy tap-in and wrap the semi-final up with just over 20 minutes left to play.

However, Warminster Town Ladies found themselves with a goal back just before the 75-minute mark, from a well-taken free-kick effort that flew straight past Town’s keeper Shawna Hannam as Swindon looked to hold out the late fightback from Warminster.

After another impressive victory that secured their spot in the final, Swindon Town Women have a short break until their next competitive fixture, as they now look ahead to their FAWNL home fixture to Keynsham Town on February 21.
