Swindon Town U18s got back to winning ways as they beat Newport County U18s 2-0 at The University of South Wales Sports Park on Saturday morning.

Goals for George Alston and Miles Obodo in the second 45 ensured the victory for Town's U18s, as they got back to winning ways in the Youth Alliance League following their impressive victory against Manchester United U18s in the FA Youth Cup last time out.

It was a quiet but positive start for Town in the early stages of the first half, with a good spell of pressure nearly paying off, as Harry Chard had an early chance down the left-hand side, but his shot was matched by the Newport goalkeeper in the third minute.

Again, it would be Swindon with the best chance as George Alston showed clever trickery to cut onto his preferred right foot and unleash a powerful shot that was just wide of the right post eight minutes later.

However, it would be the away side who managed to find themselves with the next best chance and final opportunity in a somewhat quiet first half with a Newport player seemingly through on goal before a brilliant recovery run from Harley Hunt allowed him to get back and end the final chance for County.

Half-time: Newport County U18s 0-0 Swindon Town U18s

It would be Swindon who came out firing in the second half, with George Alston finally opening the scoring, with full-back Liam Hutt teeing up the midfielder to smash home and give Town the lead.

Swindon nearly doubled their lead shortly after when Conor Britchford-Stanley danced past three Newport defenders and produced a great cross for Josh Keyes whose volley was saved incredibly by the Newport goalkeeper.

Swindon's Sonny Hart denied the next big chance for either side, as his last-ditch tackle managed to stop the ball from rocketing into the back of the net with just under 10 minutes left to play.

Following this brave piece of defending, Swindon wrapped up the victory and would have the last say in the game as a brilliant diagonal ball to the wing by U18s' debutant Josh Terry would allow Conor Britchford-Stanley to tee up recent substitute Miles Obodo and complete a wonderful team goal and a return to winning ways.

Swindon Town U18s: Evans (C), Hutt, Chard, Coles, Adams, Hunt (Hart 65’), Obodo, Keyes (Terry 67’), Ameen (Britchford-Stanley 60’), Stewart (McGregor 60’), Alston (Foye 77’).
Goals: Alston 48, Obodo 87
