Danny Rose Returns In Academy Role

Former Town midfielder takes up coaching position

18 January 2024

Danny Rose has been appointed as a Youth Development Phase Lead Coach at Swindon.

It sees the former midfielder replace Lewis Ward in this role who has now left the club.

Rose now returns to SN1 having been a part of the team that achieved promotion to League One back in the 2019/20 campaign.

Rose has also seen his playing career with the likes of Manchester United, Newport County, Fleetwood Town and Portsmouth, with the 35-year-old replacing Lewis Ward who has now left the club.

Rose's coaching career so far has seen him work with former club Darlington as Assistant Manager before going on as caretaker manager for a period of time, as he now takes on the new exciting role with Swindon Town.

He will now be looking to help develop Swindon’s academy hopefuls, working alongside academy manager Alex Pike, lead foundation phase coach Ryan Elliott and lead professional development phase coach Sean Wood.

On a social media post on Instagram, Rose said: "Delighted to this week to start as @officialstfc Lead YDP Coach.

"This is a fantastic academy doing amazing work and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.

"A club I was lucky enough to lift a League 2 title with back in 2020 and share some amazing memories with.

"To see the same welcoming faces is really humbling. Time to work!"

Alex Pike added: "We would like to introduce you to our new Youth Development Phase Lead, Danny Rose, who will be taking over the role with immediate effect.

"Danny’s focus within the role will be to oversee the 13’s-16’s programme as we revert to the previous model we ran.

"Danny has enjoyed a professional career as a midfielder, playing over 400 games in the football and national leagues.

"This has been at teams such as Newport County, Portsmouth, and Swindon, where he was part of the 2019/20 title-winning season.

"Throughout his playing career, Danny has always integrated himself within the academy and invested his time in the development of youth, sharing his knowledge and experiences to help the next generation.

"With this, we are hugely enthusiastic about the addition of Danny to our Academy team and excited for him to get started.

"Lewis Ward moves on in his career, meaning he will no longer take a coaching role, and Nathan will remain as part of our education team in the Academy.

"We would like to place on record a huge thanks to both for overseeing the programme and helping the 13s-16s' development for the first half of the season."
